Privacy policy
Last updated 26 October 2026
This policy explains what the Roam app, the Roam venue portal and this website collect, why, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Who we are
Roam is provided by Jarred Rowell, an individual developer based in Sydney, NSW, Australia (“Roam”, “we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. Contact: support@roam-mobile.app.
What we collect
When you use the Roam app
- Account details: your name, email address or Sign in with Apple identifier, an optional profile photo, and whether you’ve told us you’re 18 or over.
- Location: the home area you choose and, only if you allow it, your device’s precise location while the app is open. We use it to find quests and venues near you. We do not collect location in the background.
- Photos: proof photos you take to complete quests, party check-in photos, score-sheet photos, roster photos you choose to scan, and your profile photo. We only access photos you choose to take or select.
- Your roster: the shift times you enter, so quests don’t land while you’re working.
- Activity: quests offered and completed, ratings you give places, XP, rewards, friends, party quests, scores and side-mission confirmations.
- Preferences: your interests, budget, radius, quiet hours and notification settings.
- Device and diagnostics: device type, operating system and app version, crash reports and a push notification token.
When a venue uses the venue portal
- The name and email of the person managing the venue, the venue’s business details and address, offers they publish, and redemption and visit statistics.
When you visit this website
- Standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and pages requested) kept for security and to keep the site running. We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- Anything you choose to send us by email.
How we use it
- To pick quests that suit you: near you, open, within budget and around your shifts.
- To run party quests, friends, leaderboards, rewards and your list of rated spots.
- To send notifications you’ve turned on, respecting your quiet hours.
- To keep Roam safe and fair, for example preventing fake scores and misuse of codes.
- To fix problems and improve quest quality, using ratings and completions in aggregate.
- To run the venue portal: verify venues, publish offers and report verified visits.
- To reply to you when you contact us.
We do not sell personal information, we do not show third-party advertising, and we do not use your data to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Who can see what
- Friends see your name, profile photo, level, title, background and your top-rated spots.
- Party members see your check-in, your score after the reveal, and side missions you claim.
- Venues see counts of verified visits and perk redemptions for their own offers. They do not receive your name, contact details, photos or location.
- Nobody else. Your proof photos, roster and location are private to you unless you choose to share them.
Service providers
We use trusted providers to run Roam, and share only what each needs to provide its service:
- Supabase: database, accounts and photo storage (hosted in the Sydney region).
- Google Maps Platform: place details, opening hours, maps and travel times. The location used for a search is sent to Google to do this.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and push notifications.
- Anthropic: an AI service that helps write quest ideas and read roster or score-sheet photos you choose to scan. Content sent for processing is not used to train their models.
- Expo: app updates and delivery of push notifications.
- Our website host, which serves this site and keeps standard server logs.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
Overseas processing
Some providers may process data outside Australia, including in the United States. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure the information is protected in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Menu → Profile and settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, photos, roster and history. Copies in backups are removed within 30 days. You can also request deletion here.
Visit and redemption counts shown to venues are kept only in anonymous, aggregated form after an account is deleted.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted with per-user database rules, and photos are stored in private storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will notify you and the regulator of any eligible data breach as required by law.
Age
Roam is intended for people aged 16 and over, in line with its App Store age rating. If you tell us you’re under 18, we hide quests and venues for adults and block alcohol-related stakes. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; contact us if you believe a child has used Roam and we will delete their data.
Your choices and rights
- Turn location, notifications, camera or photo access on or off at any time in your iPhone’s Settings.
- Change your preferences, profile and roster in the app at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your personal information, or to correct it, by emailing us. We’ll respond within 30 days.
